Where should you start?
Choose a study destination by comparing suitable courses, entry requirements, total costs, language requirements and the practical conditions of studying there. Start with your academic goals, then check country and institution details using current official sources.
Compare courses before comparing country labels
Identify the subject and qualification you want, and find courses that match that direction. Compare modules, assessments and any practical or research components described by the institution.
Your first choice of country may not contain the strongest course fit for your priorities. Keep more than one destination in the discussion until you have compared actual programs rather than broad assumptions.
Check your academic and language eligibility
Compare your qualifications against the university’s published requirements. Ask the institution when a qualification, grade conversion or subject prerequisite is unclear.
Language requirements can differ between courses and institutions. Check the language of teaching, accepted English tests where relevant and whether the program requests any additional admissions assessment.
Compare the complete budget
Use university fee information and realistic living-cost estimates for the location you are considering. Study duration affects the number of months or years you need to fund.
Include expenses beyond tuition, such as housing, travel, insurance and required application costs. Scholarship coverage and lender conditions should be checked individually. Avoid planning a budget around work income you have not confirmed you are eligible to earn.
Verify practical conditions before committing
Read official student visa guidance for each destination. Work rights and post-study routes have eligibility conditions and may change, so they should not be assumed from an old summary or another student’s experience.
Compare your shortlisted destinations in a simple table: course fit, entry requirements, total budget, application deadlines and the questions still unanswered. Discuss the gaps with an advisor before selecting where to apply.
Turn the checklist into your own plan

Use your university’s current course, admissions and fee pages for specific requirements. Government visa guidance is linked in our destination guides. Avoid treating a general checklist as a guaranteed admission, funding or visa outcome.
